School laboratory in Hamburg by hammeskrause architects

It is not unusual for science faculties to invite groups of schoolchildren and carry out a variety of experiments with them in order to arouse their interest in the so-called MINT subjects. The fact that a building is being constructed especially for this purpose is, however, very special.

 

The Light & Schools physics laboratory on the Bahrenfeld research campus in Hamburg is a single-storey building that provides 1,068 square metres of space for the experiments of the pupils’ laboratory run by the University of Hamburg. The building’s programme is also aimed at young students of physics and is intended to build a bridge between school and university, research and teaching. The building was designed by the Stuttgart-based architects from hammeskrause architekten, who have already planned several buildings on the campus (…).
