Resembling a high-tech enclave, the Bahrenfeld campus in the west of Hamburg is nestled between neighbourhoods of detached houses and sports fields, arterial roads and green spaces. The DESY research and technology centre, parts of the University of Hamburg and other research institutes already make it an excellent cluster of science. Under the slogan Science City Bahrenfeld, the Hanseatic city wants to fundamentally redesign and functionally diversify the area by 2040. A genuine district for living, working and research is to be created, and the area is to be expanded, especially to the east, onto the site of a former trotting track.
The new building by hammeskrause architekten on the Bahrenfeld Campus gives pupils and students an understanding of basic physics research.
