On July 3, 2023, the symbolic cornerstone was laid for the new CeTEB Research Center (Center for Fundamental Research in Translational Evolutionary Biology) at Kiel University (CAU). Doris Grondke, head of the building department, and Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Science, Karin Prien, and Minister of Finance, Monika Heinold, jointly filled the forged time capsule, which was placed inside the cornerstone.
The new centre for evolutionary research is another beacon of the forward-looking quality of the scientific location of Schleswig-Holstein. […] A state-of-the-art research building that – even in its architecture – places cooperation, communication and research networks at the forefront.
Karin Prien, Minister of Science
A flexible research infrastructure comprising laboratory clusters, offices, conference rooms and documentation areas for the scientific work of twelve research groups is being developed on four levels with a total usable area of nearly 5,000 m². The central seating stairs on the entrance level and communication zones along the spiral staircases facilitate creative interdisciplinary exchange among the approximately 140 researchers. The new building aims for a Silver certification according to the Assessment System for Sustainable Building (BNB), with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
