NewsBuilt around the tree

School laboratory on BauNetz

The theme special 18 Häuser in wachsender Nachbarschaft (18 Houses in Growing Neighbourhoods) on features built examples that preserve the existing trees and place them at the centre of the design. Our School Laboratory at the University of Hamburg with its two existing pine trees is also portrayed as part of the special.

The outdoor area in front of the building is symbolically defined by two old pine trees, which were integrated into the design’s building composition as structural and space-creating elements. The conversion and the preservation of the two existing pine trees on the site as central figures of the outdoor space make a significant contribution to strengthening the ecological awareness at this location. This dedicated structural gesture, implemented with great care and appreciation by all parties involved in the building project, exemplifies the respect for nature and the importance of putting it first.
