Project SheetGesture of welcome

DLR-Forum of Space Propulsion, Training and exhibition building, Lampoldshausen

Project Panel

The new building for the DLR-Forum represents a further expansion of DLR’s Lampoldshausen site in an effort to strengthen scientific exchange among the partners in the European aerospace sector. The site is set in a remote location – in the middle of an enchanted forest.

  • The distinctive topography and the density of the forest dictated the spatial constellation chosen for the structure. The slope was cut into to create aforest clearing that welcomes visitors and invites them to linger.

  • An open façade is set along the cut edge, providing glimpses within to arouse visitors’ curiosity.

  • Behind it are open galleries grouped around the central two-storey exhibition area, as well as laboratories and event rooms.

  • The building with its aerospace and technology exhibition, conference rooms and labs creates optimal conditions for the practice-oriented training of young scientists.
