Sustainable technology deserves a future-proof and environmentally friendly construction method

The Fraunhofer IAPT is one of the world’s leading institutions for scientific and industrial technology transfer in 3D printing. The ground-breaking ceremony for the Fraunhofer IAPT’s extension sets an example that goes beyond the fundamental resource efficiency of additive production. The building makes innovative use of a combination of timber and steel frame construction methods in order to optimally combine the advantages of both materials and promote sustainable construction methods. In the technical center halls, steel is used due to its high strength and structural integrity in order to meet the functionality requirements for the experimental work. This is complemented by the natural, warm aesthetics of wood on the office floors, which characterize the spaces for theoretical work and communication. This differentiated choice of materials reflects the specific functional requirements of the respective rooms.
