The structure and properties of matter are investigated at the MPSD. For this purpose, light sources are irradiated with ultra-short frequencies in the femtosecond range. The structural requirements necessary for this are massive, windowless constructions.
The major challenge was to integrate the complex technical framework conditions into a functional, aesthetic and authentic architecture that best conveys the client’s desire for openness, communication and transparency.
Although it is a compact and dense building structure, it appears as open, bright and friendly as possible. The movement through the space, the play with pathways, overlaps, storey heights and air spaces, as well as the diverse views, allow you to discover the building in a completely unexpected way.
Special thanks go to our colleagues Joachim Klüsekamp and Nicole Steinbach-Falch for their long-term commitment!
We would also like to thank the project photographer Werner Hutmacher and the participating offices “baubüro.eins” and “Landschaftsarchitektur+”.
