On March 20, 2025, one of our project teams made its way to Blaubeuren to explore the fascinating world of cement terrazzo at the Bayer company.
Under the guidance of Mr. Bayer (R.Bayer Betonstein- und Terrazzo), we put together 11 individual mixtures that are now being processed into sample slabs. Particularly exciting: for our new physics building project at the University of Stuttgart, the team is investigating a site-specific terrazzo mix that integrates stone from the excavation pit. Conserving resources and precisely tailored to the experimental physics – the result is a material that underlines the architecture of the building.
The tour then continued to Ulm to the former University of Design. Mr. Dieter Raffler, former student and professor at the Bauhaus Dessau, took our team into the world of design and the design ideas of the HfG. An inspiring insight into a design tradition that still has an impact today.
A day full of materials, design and lots of new ideas.
